Can you drink tap water in Paros?
#DrinkTapWater Paros
This campaign was born from a simple wish to get a clear answer about tap water on Paros. When I first arrived and asked “is it drinkable?”, the opinions were all over the place. I really wanted to get to the bottom of if! Thanks to Common Seas / Clean Blue Paros, we were able to run a proper, two-year reality check project. Here’s the short version.
What we learned
Safety & testing: Tap water on Paros is monitored and meets drinking-water standards. Results are regularly checked and published by the local utility (DEYAP).
Taste & hardness: The water is naturally hard from local geology—normal and not a health risk. If taste bothers you, chill it in a jug, add a slice of lemon, or briefly boil and drink within 48 hours.
Supply today: Parts of the network include desalinated water, which usually lowers hardness and can improve taste.
Easy options: Prefer a different taste? Use refill points around the island or a simple home filter—there’s a guide to help you choose.
Plastic & cost: Choosing tap (or refill) cuts single-use plastic and is far cheaper than bottled water.
If something looks off: Cloudy is often tiny air bubbles and clears if you wait; brown can follow maintenance—run the tap briefly. If unsure, check locally or contact DEYAP.
